Feature request: Get rid of "Welcome to new Microsoft Purview portal" screen

Any new user of Purview DGS will be shown this screen:

I strongly believe this should be an admin led tenant-wide decision, and not an 'any new user on it's own decision'.

The screen is confusing and completely unnecessary for new users with "Global Catalog Reader" permissions only. The problem with this screen is that it results in some users landing in the classic portal, while all documentation and training materials that we share are based on the new portal.

My suggestions would be to move this option to 'settings'. After all, as Microsoft, you want your users to use the new portal too, right?

P.S. in the meantime, please get rid of the homepage and move all that under a 'getting started' page: Catalog homepage improvements are urgently needed | Microsoft Community Hub

  • Good day, Rik

A couple things. I'm going to enter this into the system so we have a record of it and so it will bubble up for the product team to see.

That said, you can also go to your Purview Portal > Feedback button on top right corner and submit your feedback/design change request there. OR if you have unified support you could also submit a support ticket and have it flagged as a DCR.

Thanks Rod, and also thank you for the suggestions!

As a customer, it is not always  clear what channels we can or should use. I'm happy to see our feedback got visibility through this channel.

  • Thanks for posting this feedback Rik. Was looking through old posts and will ensure it is routed to the team accordingly. Good day!

  • Amen to that. The classic portal has been decommissioned for a while now, so what's even the point...

My guess would be that it is being overlooked, since every admin only sees this screen once, or after clearing their cache.

However, if you want to open the catalog for thousands of normal users, it's quite a hindrance.
