Unable to Update SQL on a pre-built Azure VM

We're having trouble updating SQL Server 2014 SP1 to SP2 ... In an Azure predefined VM with SQL 2014 SP1.  Is this expected behaviour or should we be able to update this to SP2?

    Basically as far SQL is concerned, it just sees Windows (compute), whether its run in Azure or any other cloud, makes no difference to the software on top of Windows. Are there any errors or logs that might shed some light on the issues?
