Windows 7 What Browsers will still work with Windows 7?

I have a neighbor who has an old HP desktop he wants to give to his 10-year-old Grandson to get him started on computers.

I set the computer back to out-of-the-box settings and cloned the disk to an SSD.

The problem I am having is finding a browser that still works on Windows 7. I have downloaded and burned to CD several that said they would work, but don't.

Are there really one that still works on a 7 computer?

I saw a couple that said will work, but needs Windows 7 with SP1, which is not available any longer.

I see Windows 10 programs are still available, but I don't know if he wants to spend the $$$.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

    Hi Wayne,
I agree with Surya_Narayana and the best approach is to switch the system to Windows 10, but please note that Windows 10 22H2 is also no longer supported.
Support ended on October 14, 2025. For private users, there is a Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program available until October 13, 2026. This program provides critical and important security updates, but no new features or bug fixes.

    Important!!!
Please do not use sensitive data or perform transactions on a Windows 10 22H2 system.
The system should only be used for learning computer skills. In the long term, I recommend purchasing a new or used PC that is capable of running Windows 11.

  • hi wayne3842 That's a great initiative to help your neighbor's grandson get started with computers! Unfortunately, Windows 7 has reached end of support (January 2020), and most modern browsers (like Microsoft Edge, Chrome, and Firefox) no longer support it due to missing security updates and outdated system components.

    A few points to consider:

Modern browsers: Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome no longer work on Windows 7. Firefox dropped official support in September 2023.

Possible alternatives: You might try Mypal or Pale Moon, which are community-maintained browsers that can still run on older systems, though they have limited security protection.

Best long-term option: If possible, consider upgrading the device to Windows 10 (it still runs well on older hardware, especially with an SSD). This will allow access to Microsoft Edge and other modern browsers - with much better performance and security.

If upgrading isn't an option, make sure the system is offline or used only for local learning (like typing practice or basic coding) to avoid security risks.
