What determines which reply is shown under the original post in the discussion list?
When I look at the list of discussions in any of the discussion boards, if a post has any replies, one of the replies shows up underneath the original post. I would expect this to be the most recent reply. However, if a post has more than one reply, the reply that shows up is always an earlier reply.
I am interested to learn the logic behind this decision. Is there is any logic to which reply is shown, or is one selected randomly?
So the answer to this is two fold, if you are referring to the order of the replies under the topic (on the topic page) then that is controlled by the setting that Deleted and SergeiBaklan were discussing. Note: Threaded doesn't work.
If your referring to the 'first reply' view you get on the board or the category level i.e.
This is either:
- The accepted solution
- The most recent reply at level 1 of the conversation
- a pinned reply
Except.. (there is always one isn't there).. this view is also cached for anywhere between 1-30 minutes depending on if your logged in, when it was last updated in the server side cache etc etc..
I don't especially like this inconsistent behavior and its something high on my list of 'to do better' when we finally release the newer version of the platform later this year.

Hi Allen, and thanks for your response. The "'first reply' view you get on the board or the category level" is indeed what I was referring to. I'm glad to hear the issue has been acknowledged and that there may be improvements coming.

In this post below is the best answer confirmed by Microsoft, does that mean that it manually has to be pinned to be visible in the list below the post?

Given that I have not received any sort of official response, I am left to assume that this is yet another bug. It's a shame that the Tech Community is not enough of a priority for Microsoft for devote the resources to make it a well-functioning service.

Hi!SergeiBaklan
The problem, which I can't understand either, is that there is one answer all the time ->under the post, even though there are newer answers, here's an example:
Yes, definitely ( no logic )

Sorry, missed this your post. Will check, right now not sure. It works as it worked for years, I didn't play with settings for a long while.
