runtime API is undefined when working on content script in Microsoft Edge older version

While sending message from content to background script the runtime api gets undefined for one of the content scripts in Facebook login Page.

In Edge Chromium there is no such issue and it works fine while the issue is seen in only Microsoft Edge.

please help
