RockyW, I'm not sure if this is still an issue since your post is since 2 months old, but here’s the current situation: in new Outlook, "Groups" are Microsoft 365 Groups, and they always create a shared mailbox/resources.

It doesn't fully replace the old personal Contact Group/Distribution List behavior from classic Outlook.

    Here below some workarounds:

    • Keep using your personal Contact Group from classic Outlook: it will still send from your own address
    • Create and/or manage a contact list, personal distribution list, in People/Outlook on the web, then email it from your mailbox
    • If you need an org-wide distribution group you can control without shared resources, create one in Exchange admin center: new Outlook doesn't manage these directly.

Let us know if you're still stuck and what setup you’re using, and we'll point you to the best option.
