Hi, I would like to be able to open and edit a personal, confidential, excel file from my PC to a laptop, right now I cannot open that copied file on my laptop? Do not want to use One Drive. Thank...
Hey! This is actually pretty easy to fix. A few things could be causing this:
1. The file might be "read-only" because of how it was copied. Right-click the file on your laptop, go to Properties, and uncheck the Read-only box at the bottom.
2. If it's password protected, you'll need the same password you set on your PC.
3. Try copying via USB drive instead of whatever method you're using now sometimes network copying adds weird permission locks.
4. If Excel on your laptop is a different version, just click "Enable Editing" when it opens.
Quickest fix: right click the file, Properties, uncheck Read-only, hit Apply. That solves it 90% of the time!
