desktop login issue

Just recently I noticed that when I power up and go to my desktop login in screen I noticed something that was never there. I'll describe what I'm seeing.

Between my user name and the enter my pin number there is now a small rectangular box of dots that I've never seen before. It doesn't seem to serve any purpose. It doesn't affect my login process. It's a grid box of three dots horizontal by three dots vertical with a single dot in the 4th row

Any idea what it is?
