OneNote Future?

I wouldn’t move everything out of OneNote just yet. I’ve had the same feeling that Microsoft doesn’t talk about OneNote as much as it does about some of its newer products, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re abandoning it.

One thing that confused me for a while was the different OneNote versions. Microsoft has been consolidating the Windows experience rather than maintaining multiple separate versions, so some of the changes can look more like “nothing is happening” when they’re actually happening behind the scenes.

I’d probably keep using OneNote if it already works well for you. Moving years of notes to Notion or Obsidian just because another app is getting more attention can create more work than it solves.

That said, if you’re starting a completely new knowledge system today, I’d compare the three based on how you actually use your notes. OneNote is still really good for handwritten notes, PDFs, free-form pages and general organization. Notion is stronger if you want databases and structured workspaces, while Obsidian is great if you like linking notes together and building your own knowledge system.

So personally, I’d keep my existing OneNote library and only migrate if I had a specific problem that OneNote couldn't solve.
