Fabric Warehouse is not extracting metadata like tables and its columns in Purview

Hello Team,
Good Evening..!

We noticed that the metadata in Datawarehouse is not extracting Schema(Tab) which contains Tables and its columns
We scanned Lakehouse using Service prinicple where metadata extraction is done as expected but it is not the same in Data Warehouse after the scan completes.

Are there any other options to get that metadata extracted under warehouse ?

Please guide us the best possible methods to handle this situation.

Regards,
Naresh Inaganti

  • Hello Naresh! Thank you for reaching out on this issue.
    Yes, due to the limitations of the private preview, this issue is expected to occur. Please see the official documentation on the same.

    As we await this update to support deeper scans ensure you’re using the latest Purview connector for Fabric to take advantage of any new features that roll out.
    Buraks comment in this community also highlights a few workarounds to try out but please take note of the current limitation.

      Hi milgo ,

      I notice you gave this answer in another post as well - this only refers to a Lakehouse - and indeed I'm not sure it's the relevant portion of doco ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/data-engineering/lakehouse-schemas#public-preview-limitations) vs. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/register-scan-fabric-tenant?tabs=Scenario1#known-limitations )?;

      My concern is that both posts - and my own org (& Head of Data) - are actually interested in being able to scan assets (tables/views etc.) in a Fabric Warehouse, not a lakehouse.

      Given a warehouse is essentially a newer/rebadged version of a Synapse Warehouse, we really can't understand why it's not possible yet to scan it as the (virtual) SQL it obviously is?

      We're also really concerned that the latest version of the https://cdn-dynmedia-1.microsoft.com/is/content/microsoftcorp/microsoft/final/en-us/microsoft-brand/documents/MS-Purview-Data-Governance-Roadmap-detailed.pdf makes absolutely no mention of being able to scan a Fabric Warehouse even being on the horizon. Are you able to shed any light?
