Auto classifcation policy - Sensitivity Lables - SIT - Fabric Delta Tables
- Oct 14, 2025
Hello BanuMurali,
Automatically apply sensitivity labels is only possible via Inheritance from data sources or downstream inheritance. Refer to: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/governance/protected-sensitivity-labels#how-protected-labels-work-in-fabric-and-power-bi
For example, if auto labeling is applied for Azure Synapse Analytics or Azure SQL Database as data sources, the data remains classified when brought into Power BI. Or, say if the Power BI report has the label applied manually, dashboard inherits this applied label automatically.
Hope that clarifies.

Also refer to: Set or remove sensitivity labels programmatically with admin APIs - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn if you are looking to programmatically set/remove labels for large volumes of data.
Hope this helps!

Hi BanuMurali ,
Thanks for the clarification. Sensitivity labels in Microsoft Purview Data Map are currently in preview. While auto-labeling is supported for some data sources, Fabric as a data source is not supported for auto-labeling at this time.
Refer to: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/data-map-data-sources#services-and-apps

Key points to note:
- Custom Sensitive Information Types (SITs) are not supported in Purview Data Map currently.
- For supported sources, only auto-labeling is available; manual labeling is not supported at this time.
A lot more is covered in this good list of FAQs here: Sensitivity labels in Microsoft Purview Data Map FAQ (preview) | Microsoft Learn

Hi Prathista Ilango ,
Thanks for the clarification!!
It would really help us.
If MS Fabric is not supported in Auto labelling policy as a source, Can you please confirm why it was listed in the MS Purview Information Protection - sensitivity label scope - 'Files and other Data Assets'.
Can you please help as me how I efficiently use the auto labelling policy in MS Purview for Fabric as a source.
1. Any roadmap for Fabric as a source to support auto labelling policy in Purview data map and to support custom Sensitive info types?
2. In general, Any roadmap for Custom Sensitive Information Types (SITs) to support in Purview Data Map for currently supported sources (Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Azure Cosmos DB, AWS RDS)
Can you please help me on this, we are planning to implement Auto labelling for fabric assets in Purview Data catalog through Data Map, If we get clarification on above question it would really help us to plan it.
Thanks again!!
Regards,
Banu
