Recommended Metrics for VM Monitoring
Is there a list of recommended metrics to use for setting up monitoring/alerts for VMs ?
We are using Log analytics but I'm not sure of the best approach, metric or query or a mixture of both ?

JK_UK Hi Jon, VM Insights has a good set of performance counters to start with - you can get more details on these pages: Performance view and details on perf data.
JK_UK Find the attached file I would consider them to start as base and then start building on top of it . Hope that helps
