How many properties are allowed in customDimensions colomn in Pageviews table

We are currently adding a few custom properties under column "customDimensions" (in JSON format) in pageviews tables.

is there any upper limit . 
We not going to add too many properties within, but wanted to understand what is the number of properties allowed.
