Need guidance to transition my career to Azure Cloud Engineer

Hello,
I have done certifications in Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals and ITIL 4 Foundation. I have 7 years of experience as an IT Major Incident Manager, and I am interested in transitioning my career to an Azure Cloud Engineer role. Please help me with a strategy to get a job as an Azure Cloud Engineer.

Thanks in Advance,
Rahul

  • Hi Rahul,

Congratulations on completing the Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals and ITIL 4 Foundation certifications. This is a good start for transitioning your career. First option would be to see if you can transition within the company to Cloud Engineer roles if you have internally this would be a soother ones since moving within the companies is much easier than moving outside.

If not will suggest you start reading the job posting on Azure Cloud engineer roles which will be mostly focused on operations that would be on deployment of resources through automation such as ARM, Bicep etc. Also familiarize yourself with storage, networking and security tools and techniques used in organizations. The final step is to start applying and give a shot at the Cloud engineer jobs once you have an interview.  Good Luck with your Carrer transition.

  • Try this and good luck for your career:

    1. Leverage Your Existing Certifications and Experience

    • Highlight your certifications: Your Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, and ITIL 4 Foundation certifications are valuable. Make sure they are prominently featured on your resume and LinkedIn profile.
    • Emphasize your experience: Your 7 years as an IT Major Incident Manager demonstrate your ability to handle high-pressure situations and manage critical incidents, which are valuable skills in cloud engineering.

    2. Gain Hands-On Experience

    • Set up a personal lab: Use Azure’s free tier to create and manage resources. This hands-on experience is crucial.
    • Work on projects: Build and deploy small projects to showcase your skills. Examples include setting up virtual networks, deploying web apps, and configuring storage solutions.

    3. Expand Your Knowledge

    • Advanced Certifications: Consider pursuing more advanced Azure certifications like the Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.
    • Learn DevOps practices: Familiarize yourself with DevOps tools and practices, as they are often integral to cloud engineering roles.

    4. Develop Relevant Skills

    • Programming and Scripting: Learn a programming language like Python or PowerShell, which are commonly used in cloud environments.
    • Networking and Security: Deepen your understanding of networking concepts and cloud security best practices.

    5. Network and Engage with the Community

    • Join professional groups: Participate in Azure and cloud computing forums, LinkedIn groups, and local meetups.
    • Attend webinars and conferences: These events can provide valuable insights and networking opportunities.

    6. Prepare for Interviews

    • Mock interviews: Practice with peers or use platforms that offer mock technical interviews.
    • Study common interview questions: Be prepared to answer questions about your hands-on experience, problem-solving abilities, and specific Azure services.

    7. Apply for Jobs

    • Tailor your resume: Customize your resume for each job application to highlight the most relevant skills and experiences.
    • Use job boards and company websites: Look for Azure Cloud Engineer positions on job boards like LinkedIn, Indeed, and company career pages.
