Help connecting on premises active directory to Azure active directory

I am trying to connect my on premises active directory to Azure active directory.

I have purchased a domain name. The name of the on premises active directory is the same as the domain name I have purchased. Can I install the any connect tool on the domain controller or do I have to install the any connect tool on a member sever? What is the best practice?
