DevOps on-prem patch installation fails to detect app pool being stopped
We're using an on-prem version of DevOps. All the patches (in version 2019 and 2020.1) seem to have a problem detecting that the DevOps IIS Application Pool is turned off.
Essentially the patch needlessly waits and repeats the following line:
"Waiting for worker process for application pool 'Azure DevOps Server Application Pool' to stop."
until it, eventually, raises an error. It still proceeds with the patch installation regardless, so it's no show stopper, but clearly something's wrong.
Any idea what the issue might be?
- PMarc0Copper ContributorI have exactly the same problem when trying to install devops2020.0.1patch1.
- Hal187Copper ContributorTrying to install Devops 2020.1.1 patch 1 or patch 4 and it fails... Did you find anything?
- MBenderBrass ContributorThen you have a different issue. The patching process did succeed for the case this post describes (it just fails to recognise that IIS is stopped and wastes time).
It seems like it's something more serious in your case.

I managed to install the patch after restart and retring it again.
