Azure Front Door with custom domain validated but Provision status is "updating"

I have configured FD with custom domains (for B2C tenants) and validation state is "Approved" however the Provision status in the overview says "Provision updating" for some of the custom domains. What does this mean (I have not been able to find documentation on it)?
