How do I integrate a custom AI agent with D365 Finance and Operations?

We have a requirement where a custom AI agent is required to call D365 Finance and Operation to search an item with some search criteria. 
Any pointer here is greatly appreciated. 
We are in the process of building this custom AI agent using the Azure AI Foundry. 
We are also looking to retrieve the matching items from D365 Finance and Operations to be returned to the AI agent.
