Suddenly prohibited from using my home photos in Copilot images
- Dec 04, 2025
“ You are likely being blocked by new, automated safety guidelines that prevent the creation of images using uploaded photos containing recognizable faces, even if you own the copyright. This is a recent change implemented by Microsoft for privacy and safety reasons.
The system is designed to broadly prevent misuse, such as creating deepfakes or impersonating individuals without their consent, and does so automatically.
Why this is happening:
- Automated Content Filters: Microsoft’s Copilot uses sophisticated content moderation policies to prevent potential copyright infringement and the misuse of personal likeness.
- Privacy and Impersonation Concerns: The primary reason for blocking images with recognizable faces is to prevent the generation of images that could be used for identity-related misuse.
- Brand Policy Implementation: The safety guidelines are a broad policy; the AI cannot currently differentiate between a personal photo you have permission to use and a photo uploaded without consent. It flags any image with a recognizable face to be safe.
- Recent Changes: Other users have reported that this feature used to work for them but suddenly stopped, indicating a recent update to the safety protocols.
Potential Workarounds and Next Steps:
- Modify Your Images: Try using images where faces are not clearly recognizable or are obscured.
- Describe the Likeness in Text: Instead of uploading a photo, try describing the features you want in the image using text prompts. While less precise, this may bypass the image upload filter
- Use Other Platforms: Other AI image generators might have different policies. The user mentioned they had this problem with other AI image creation tools.
- Provide Feedback to Microsoft: Microsoft encourages users to report issues and provide feedback to help improve the system. You can provide feedback within the Copilot app or through the Microsoft Community Hub.
- Check Account/Browser Issues: If the issue persists across all image types (not just photos with faces), try general troubleshooting steps like clearing your browser cache and cookies or using an inPrivate window. “
Hope This Helps ScottCincy ! Also Refrain From Swearing As Your Post May Result In Deletion Or Potentially Locked To Prevent Swear Words Being Introduced On The Thread From Yourself,
Hi ScottCincy,
I understand how frustrating this must be. Microsoft Copilot now blocks photos with faces, even if they are yours, to protect privacy. It can feel unfair, but it’s a safety rule. One option is to describe the faces in text instead of uploading photos, or make the faces less clear.
If you want more freedom for movie-style posters, I can suggest some safe sites for movie fans like you, so you can still create cool B-Movie posters using your own images.
