Definitely interesting news.
We will evaluate the new mode but I have two questions for you:
- will developing custom extensions be supported like in WAC but - hopefully - in a simple manner than WAC?
- when adding a new host, which is already active and it is already hosting VMs, will any change be applied including changes to networking? Will settings be just imported as they are without changes?
Thanks.
Unfortunately this comes a little late after neglecting this need for Hyper-V-based companies and service providers for years. The last real attempt to provide something closer to SCVMM which was Web based basically was Windows Azure Pack in 2014, if I'm not mistaken.
We had to do it ourselves for more than 10 years. Too much to trust Microsoft again about this until we see real stuff.
This is a very interesting evolution but:
- I wouldn't deploy this in production until Microsoft shows REAL commitment to the technology since this is too critical to risk since Microsoft has a long history of abandonware;
- WAC is based on React, if I'm not mistaken. Not sure why Microsoft has Blazor in-house and it is not using such jem for management software. Extending WAC was very difficult and probably not worth the pain. Hopefully it will be easier for vMode;
- most of Microsoft attempt in this field are crippled by the way you guys attempt to use such software to push people in Azure, even those that do not want. That bends the design in order to achieve that goal. It becomes clear quite soon that there's no attempt to provide a genuine solution, just something half-baked enough to push some Azure stuff into it. Hopefully, this will turn into a attempt to provide value.
Good job. We will keep an eye on it. Thanks.
