Today, we are releasing an update ("hotfix") to our latest version of Windows Admin Center! Windows Admin Center version 2110.2 is now in Public Preview. Thank you to our customers, partners, and fans for helping us to continue to improve and make Windows Admin Center better! We’re working constantly to ensure users of our product have the best user experience.

We’ve been working diligently to address feedback from our 2110 release in November of last year. In this update of our 2110 release, we’ve made major bug fixes to Role-based Access Control (RBAC), the connections page’s search feature, as well as bug fixes in several extensions.

Platform updates

Windows Admin Center now enables HSTS support!

Enabled HSTS support! HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) is a policy mechanism that helps protect your website by forcing the browser to only open websites with secure HTTPS connections only. This will reduce the risk of threats such as protocol downgrade attacks and cookie hijacking. HSTS will on by default and always be enabled unless you manually disable it within your browser.

Session expiration & manage-as reauthentication

In the past release, we introduced the session expiration feature, where users can have their UI session of Windows Admin Center expire after some period of inactivity. With this release, users are able to specify the duration time and also require manage-as sessions to reauthenticate after a set time. To use this feature, navigate to the Settings icon on the top-left and select the General tab.

Bug fixes

RBAC fixes

In the 2110 release, some users were unable to utilize gateway access roles or RBAC. In this release, you should be able to effectively manage your gateway access roles again from the Settings page. The Allowed Groups table will now display the roles properly and allow you to add and delete as you see fit. In addition to that, RBAC for Server Manager has been fixed, you are now able to apply and remove RBAC on your machine(s) and delegate privileged and non-privileged roles.

Connections page is fixed

In the 2110 release, users were having a myriad of issues on the connections page such as broken search and tagging. We have resolved the following issues in this release:

  • Fixed bug where connection list would initially appear empty after install
  • Fixed bug where tags would disappear on import
  • Fixed bug where connections were not displaying correctly when filtered
  • Fixed bug where adding or removing a node of a cluster or a cluster would cause the cluster machines to disappear from connections list
  • Fixed bug where shared connections header was not showing up
  • Fixed connection search (by name/tag/etc)

Other

  • WAC asking for admin permissions on install fix
  • Various bug fixes: Bugs have been fixes across the product and more fixes will continue coming through our extension feed over the next few months.
  • Accessibility fixes: Accessibility continues to play a crucial role throughout the product. This release is our most accessible version of Admin Center ever.

Thank you for this release. Due to the issue with shared connection and search it is long awaited. Next time please have a timelier hotfix release for such critical things. It was unusable and some users turned away, quite unnecessarily.

Can you confirm that aka.ms/wacfeedback is still the go-to replacement for UserVoice which has been disbanded / deleted?

I have emailed Prasidh a long bullet point list of pros because I like the feedback being on GitHub and have more than 100 items could submit but was hesitant because of the unclear future of the feedback platform on GitHub.

Is there any progress on updating some of the Microsoft Extensions for Active Directory, DHCP, DNS?  In current state they really aren't all that usable. These tools need to be up to par with their MMC equivalents.

Is there a better solution for "SSO" to manage the servers?

I always wrote a script that set the Kerberos-Delegation for every server i want to manage.

But in 2022 that feels like stone-age

I didn't found other solution till today. Maybe someone else did.

Best would be, if WAC would have an option to set the appropriate delegation permissions

Have you made sure to TAKE OUT the Advertising for other Microsoft services that have invaded the menus in the past couple years?

As an Admin I should ONLY see the features available to me at this moment in time. If I chose to subscribe to other services, then and only then should they appear.
