We’re excited to announce that Microsoft 365 Copilot is coming to Viva Engage. Copilot in Engage is now smarter, faster, and personalized-designed to boost your productivity. Operating as an assistan...
Hello trisharti, I think you are not being fully transparent with your readers.
Microsoft Copilot in Viva Engage is already included for customers with a Viva Suite or Viva Employee Communications and Communities license (see attached screenshot from the latest January 2025 Viva licensing sheet). A Microsoft 365 Copilot license is not required for Copilot in Viva Engage if one of these Viva Premium licenses is assigned to the user account.
Microsoft has already communicated that Copilot in Planner (currently included in Planner & Project Plan 3 and 5) will soon require a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, meaning customers will need to purchase two licenses.
Based on this, I expect the same approach will be taken with Viva Engage — removing Copilot from Viva Premium licenses so that customers are forced to add a Microsoft 365 Copilot license on top.
Promoting Microsoft 365 Copilot for Viva Engage as you do in this post is wrong, since Copilot is already available under some Viva Premium licenses. Your post suggests that “Microsoft Copilot in Viva Engage” may be removed from Viva Premium licenses, requiring customers to hold both a Viva Premium license and Microsoft 365 Copilot to continue using Copilot in Viva Engage. To customers, this would be a negative change — yet your post frames it as a positive development.
I look forward to your explanation and clarification.
Thank you for reaching out and giving us the opportunity to clarify.
Copilot v1, the experience you reference, is included in the Viva Suite or C&C license, and that continues unchanged. There are no changes to that experience as part of this launch.
This post refers specifically to the launch of Microsoft 365 Copilot in Viva Engage, which is a separate experience. Since it is built on the broader M365 Copilot platform, it requires an M365 Copilot license to deliver the fully integrated experience we’re aiming for.
Thanks Trisharti, for the answer and the reference. It’s interesting to read, but I’m sure many users will be confused by having two Copilots in Viva Engage, especially if both licenses are in use. Personally, I would call Engage Copilot v1 the legacy version, since I don’t expect further development for it. But we will see.
