Totally agree, and this is the issue that some can face. The Viva Home might not be for everyone right now and there some features that would be nice to have such as being able to navigate to intranet directly from mobile tab instead of having a navigation item.
>Did they have a good personalized home site that's also integrated into Teams before Viva? Did they still see Viva Connections as a step forward then? Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't really promote the Intelligent Intranet very well but I believe that if you manage to build a good iteration of it yourself, then Viva is more of a step backwards.
Yeah all of my clients where running personalized home site via Teams and had been for a couple of years. Feedback so far as been surprisingly well and a lot of have seen it as a step forward but we also needed to communicate that intranet was another click.
The way we see and promote it is that Viva Home is an add on to the user experience of the intranet, where you as an user want a quick overview on-the-go, this is where you go. If you want to access your Viva apps this is the place etc. If you need to visit the intranet, it's one click away.
With that being said, you can always Promote Viva Home as your Viva Hub to access everything Viva and on-the-go and have an additional app just for the Intranet.

You can push the Viva connection App to some users via teams admin panel and let them try.
