Seems to me that creating these steps as separate tasks, instead, eliminates any link between them, and the purpose of the step function. I could create the overall task as a unique list. so these (step) tasks could be individually added tasks on the list, and added individually to My Day, but then the large number of lists would be cumbersome.
While I appreciate steps being under tasks, I want to complete one or more steps today that will not complete the task today. Adding selected steps (not all) to My Day allows me to focus on those actions. If I move the entire task to My Day, I don't "see" the steps, only the whole, which is contrary to the point of My Day (the actions, whether step or task I plan to take today, and not a bigger picture).
I think a simple enough solution would be the option to pull either a task (with or without steps) or an individual step. Having both available would serve either of our organizational styles.
