I know this is not VMM specific but it’s a pretty cool tool that I’m sure you’ll find help when working with Hyper-V or Virtual PC.

Disk2vhd is a utility that creates VHD (Virtual Hard Disk - Microsoft’s Virtual Machine disk format) versions of physical disks for use in Microsoft Virtual PC or Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines (VMs). The difference between Disk2vhd and other physical-to-virtual tools is that you can run Disk2vhd on a system that’s online. Disk2vhd uses Windows’ Volume Snapshot capability, introduced in Windows XP, to create consistent point-in-time snapshots of the volumes you want to include in a conversion. You can even have Disk2vhd create the VHDs on local volumes, even ones being converted (though performance is better when the VHD is on a disk different than ones being converted).

For more information and to download the utility see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-nz/sysinternals/ee656415(en-us).aspx

Hopefull1y someone has the answer.  I have a Lenova x1 extreme that I desire to run Win 7 as the guest OS in VirtualBox running in Windows 10 Home.

I have an old dell with Win 7 installed and also ordered a set of disk in case I ever needed them.

My Lenova has 2TB drive with 32GB ram and weighs much less than the Dell.  So does anyone know how I can get a Win7 iso to use in VirtualBox......thanks

This tool says it will run on Windows 2008 but I have a Windows 2008 Standard server and when I try to run it on their it says it requires Windows 7 or higher. Is it supposed to work on Windows 2008 Standard or does it need Windows 2008 R2?
