A bit sad that I just passed AZ-204 and AI-102 last month... but don't worry. the knowledge is in my head :)
MicrosoftIf you have the Azure architect certification, you need to maintain it by completing the annual renewal requirements (pass the assessment on Learn). Once you have this cert, you maintain it through the renewal process until it retires and can no longer be renewed.
Exams are not certifications, it is important to distinguish between them. If you have already earned the Azure Solution Architect Expert certification then all you need to do is renew it every year. You do not need to take the new exams as they are released.
I think I earned my Azure Solution Architect Expert by passing AZ-302 to transition from the old MCSA/MCSE 70-533/70-534 exams and have not had to pass AZ-303, AZ-304, or AZ-305 as those exams have been retired along the way.
Isn't AZ-104 a prerequisite for Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305) instead of AZ-204?
MicrosoftYes, it is. But the principle still applies... you renew certs through the cert renewal process not by retaking exams (although you can if you want--but that's your choice not a MS requirement).
MicrosoftYes yes... so I guess my question should be more generic.. If A is the prerequisite of B, and A is retiring to C, so for people that already clearred A and B, do they need to take C (after A retires) in order to keep B valid?

There is an option of either AZ-204 or AZ-104 as prerequisites.
I only see Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate as e prerequisites on https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/certifications/azure-solutions-architect/. Which is AZ-104 I belief.
