SBS 2011 Standard Fax Routing to Email Fails with “The following error occurred: 0x80040211”

A while ago we wrote a blogpost regarding an issue where fax routing to email can fail on Windows Server 2008, upon which SBS 2008 is built. A KB article/hotfix was released shortly afterwards for the OS which addressed and resolved the issue. Unfortunately, Windows Server 2008 R2, and therefore SBS 2011 Standard, is also affected by the same issue. As a result, the KB article and hotfix have been recently updated to cover both OS versions:

The Fax Service crashes when a fax server receives a fax on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2:

If either your SBS 2008 or SBS 2011 Standard server is experiencing the problem described in the KB article, then apply the hotfix. You do not need to reboot the server for the changes to take effect.
