Fast forward to year 2022, Windows 11 will not trust a self signed certificate if the hostname is not listed in the Subject Alternate names even if it is added to the trusted root certificate folder. While most of the certificate generated through New-SelfSignedCertificate doesnt seem to have the issue, the issue is mostly seen in certificates created using IIS manager.
