SAP running on Oracle Database is a very common SAP deployment pattern. We are working with customers to move the Oracle workloads to Azure as their first step to modernize the SAP estate in their business transformation journey.

This document details the design patterns, recommendations and lessons learnt from some of the largest migrations to Azure. The attached document is a more detailed document to supplement the already published article Azure Virtual Machines Oracle DBMS deployment for SAP workload.

    Hello,

    Great document Vamshi.

We are on the process of preparing the migration of larges SAP on Oracle Databases to Azure. Production Databases are close to 20 TB.

Operating System will remain the same , Microsoft Windows Server 2012.

One of our concern is indeed to carefully determine IOPs and Disk ThroughPut requirements on Azure VMs Side.

I was wondering if you had similar recommendations to the ones you provided to storage management , disks layouts, stripes sizes, etc .. for Oracle on Windows.

As per sap note 2039619 - SAP Applications on Microsoft Azure using the Oracle Database: Supported Products and Versions,

ASM does not seem to be supported for Windows OS. So I guess we would need to use Windows Storages Pools and Storages Spaces,

to achieve similar setup  , but I could not find any similar recommandations .

    Thank you very much
