A year ago, Microsoft and Oracle expanded our long-standing partnership with a groundbreaking solution: Oracle Database@Azure. This first-of-its-kind offering allows customers to run Oracle Database services on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), located within Microsoft Azure datacenters. This enables businesses to migrate existing workloads or build new cloud applications that seamlessly integrate Oracle Database services with native Azure capabilities. We are excited to share important new enhancements to Oracle Database@Azure that unlock data governance, analytics, security and AI capabilities for mission-critical enterprise data workloads:
- New integration with Microsoft Purview
- Support for Microsoft Fabric’s Open Mirroring capabilities
- Network and security enhancements
- General availability of 2 new regions
- Support for Oracle Exascale
Data governance with Microsoft Purview
Microsoft Purview now supports Oracle Database@Azure so customers can govern, manage, and secure their Oracle data, ensuring compliance and improved data governance for Oracle Exadata Service and Oracle Autonomous Database Service. Customer data owners will be able to federate data assets from these Oracle Database@Azure services along with other enterprise assets into domain specific data products and establish governance with the help of data policies, controls and data quality solutions.
Open Mirroring with Microsoft Fabric
We previously announced the integration between Microsoft Fabric One Lake and Oracle GoldenGate to enhance data analytics and AI for Oracle Database@Azure services.
Today, we’re thrilled to announce Public Preview of integration with Open Mirroring—a powerful new feature designed to streamline the management of complex data updates across a variety of enterprise data sources. Open Mirroring keeps your data continuously synchronized, ensuring its always analytics-ready and primed for insights within Microsoft Fabric. With the Oracle GoldenGate integration, we are unlocking new AI capabilities together, paving the way for deeper, data-driven intelligence and innovation. With Microsoft Fabric and Purview now supported on Oracle Database@Azure, customers can combine powerful analytics with unified data governance, enabling deeper insights and secure, compliant data management for better decision-making.
Advanced networking and enhanced security
Oracle Database@Azure is already well integrated into the Azure VNET with subnet delegation. Today, we are happy to announce that we are raising the bar for deeper network integration for Oracle Database@Azure solutions.
With expanded User Defined Routes (UDR) functionality now available, customers can now use Azure Firewall, third-party Network Virtual Appliance (NVA), and secure virtual hubs to inspect traffic for Oracle Database@Azure, meeting enterprise security standards.
Early next year, Oracle Database@Azure will be deeply integrated with Azure VNET, enhancing security and connectivity to more Azure services. Customers will be able to apply inbound Network Security Groups (NSG) and connect to Azure services like storage for self-managed Backup and Azure Key Vault for customer managed keys over Private Link. Additionally, customers will be able to connect to Oracle Database@Azure across regions via Global Vnet Peering, enabling data replication and geo-redundancy for disaster recovery. This ensures secure, high-speed data transfer over Azure's physical network backbone.
Global Expansion
We are expanding our services globally to ensure that you have access to Azure's powerful capabilities wherever you are. With the addition of Brazil South and Italy North, Oracle Database@Azure is now available in 9 regions —Australia East, Brazil South, Canada Central, East US, France Central, Germany West Central, Italy North, US West (DR) and UK South.
Additionally, the service will expand to 24 more regions by next year.
Oracle Exascale – coming soon!
As part of our expanding partnership, Oracle and Microsoft are planning to provide Oracle Exadata Database Service on Exascale Infrastructure on Oracle Database@Azure. Once available, Azure customers of virtually any size will be able to run Exadata Database Service with hyper-elastic scaling and pay-per-use economics.
