Updated 3/2/2016 - Hotfix available Author: Aaron Czechowski, Senior Program Manager, Enterprise Client and Mobility The Windows 10 ADK was recently updated on the Microsoft Hardware Dev Center, aligned with the Windows 10, version 1511 update. While this Windows ADK update addresses several known issues present in the initial release of the Windows 10 ADK (PowerShell, MDAC) there is a serious issue with it that blocks the following Configuration Manager OS deployment scenarios:
  • From Software Center, launch a task sequence that uses a Windows PE v10.0.10586 boot image. When the computer restarts into Windows PE, it will fail when “Initializing hardware devices” with the error: “Windows PE initialization failed with error code 0x80220014.”
A standalone hotfix, KB3143760 , is now available to correct this issue. This hotfix requires that the Windows Image file (boot.wim) be manually updated, and that the image on Configuration Manager distribution points be updated also. KB3143760: Windows PE boot images cannot initialize in System Center Configuration Manager This applies to customers using the following products:
  • The following have optional support for the Windows 10 ADK:
    • System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP2
    • System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager SP1
  • The following require the Windows 10 ADK (prerequisite)
    • System Center Configuration Manager Technical Preview
    • System Center Configuration Manager (current branch)
As an alternative to the hotfix, you may continue to use the original release of the Windows 10 ADK, which is supported for OS deployments including Windows 10, version 1511. This older version of the Windows 10 ADK can still be downloaded directly from the Microsoft Download Center: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/1/9/8197FEB9-FABE-48FD-A537-7D8709586715/adk/adksetup.exe . The following table provides the identifying details to determine which version of the Windows 10 ADK you have (from the properties of adksetup.exe):
