Jason_Sandys or anyone else authoritative on this matter.
Either I'm misunderstanding something or there is intentional misrepresentation of language going on.
The notion that the new Intune/Endpoint Manager integration is "winget" seems misleading.
If I open powershell and run a winget search for a Dell package I get;
PS C:\> winget search --name "Dell Command | Update"
Name Id Version Source
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dell Command | Update Dell.CommandUpdate 4.6.0 winget
Dell Command | Update for Windows Universal Dell.CommandUpdate.Universal 4.8.0 winget
Note that the source is "winget" NOT msstore. Therefore these simply don't show up in Intune/Endpoint Manager if you try to search.
But those are the actual worthwhile applications people need. They, from what I can tell, are published by Dell and up to date!
PS C:\> winget show --id Dell.CommandUpdate.Universal

Another example as mentioned by a user above would be something like 7-zip, and in this case the results are even worse IMO.
PS C:\Users\domainadmin> winget search --name "7-zip"
Name Id Version Source
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7-Zip for Windows XPDNKVCX4QD2DC Unknown msstore
7-Zip File Manager (Unofficial) 9MZ81RMK8JFD Unknown msstore
7-Zip 7zip.7zip 22.01 winget
7-Zip ZS mcmilk.7zip-zstd 22.01 ZS v1.5.2 R1 winget
7-Zip Alpha (msi) 7zip.7zip.Alpha.msi 21.03.00.0 winget
7-Zip Alpha (exe) 7zip.7zip.Alpha.exe 21.04 beta winget
So as you can see in this case there are "msstore" and "winget" sources. The ones with "msstore" will show up in Intune/Endpoint Manager but not the winget ones. Why is this a BAD thing? Well lets look at the 2 msstore entries.

Compression ratio results are very dependent upon the data used for the tests. Usually, 7-Zip compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format. And 7-Zip compresses to zip format 2-10% better than most of other zip compatible programs.

Description:
I strongly advise to switch to NanaZip who maintain a very decent fork of 7-Zip. For now I will continue the maintenance of this release but with nanazip available this version does not offer any significant value anymore.
7-Zip allows you to compress and package your files into many different formats like zip, 7z or rar.
This is an inofficial portation of 7-Zip for the Windows Store. It is not supported by the original developer.
Why am I doing this? I do not intend to earn money with this. I basically want to use 7-Zip on my Windows 10 S-Mode device. I only maintain this release as long as there is no official release. 7-Zip is developed by Igor Pavlov who I want to credit for his great work.

Nothing against either of these individuals, but 1 is published by some 3rd party called "Zeeis" who have NO affiliation with 7-zip software. The other is published by just a guy named Hauke Hasselberg who packages 7-zip up to be published on the Microsoft store for personal use on his S mode windows devices. Again, no affiliaton with 7-zip or its team. Just some random people in a community repo publishing software they don't maintain or work with to a supposed "trusted store".
The insulting this here is that then if we look at the winget package we see it's published by the official developer Igor Pavlov;

This issue goes on and on for pretty much every commonly used piece of software and I don't understand why it's like this.
So my question is why? Why are we integrating "msstore" only application into a business focused product like Intune/Endpoint Manager? Why would you want to fill this solution with a bunch of random packages that don't come from official sources? Why are we not integrating "winget" sources? Why are you promoting this as "winget" when it's clearly just "msstore"? Someone please make sense of this for me.
