What happened to Exchange? Microsoft have retired all applicable certifications at this point. No more MCSE Productivity Solutions Expert, no more M365 Messaging Administrator Associate, no more this thing (Exchange Online Support Engineer Specialty). Meanwhile, Exchange Online remains the centerpiece of Office 365, and the same people who worked in Exchange over the years still have to know about Exchange in order to administer and support it. We just don't get to have any certifications to reflect the lane we're in. I know it has nothing to do with the list of skills involved being short, or simple. It's a little bit weird that Microsoft are just killing off the certified Exchange admin designation. It's a slap in the face, which I guess is to be expected from Microsoft. But nevertheless, ruffles my feathers.
I just did the M365 Administrator Expert renewal last week and it was as simple as a Kindergarten pop-quiz. Like "What color is the sky on a sunny day with no clouds?" Answers: A) Blue, B) Red, C) Purple. And yet this is the recommended certification given to Exchange admins asking about present-day Exchange certifications. It's hardly involving Exchange at all, minus a few indirect topics like how to sensitivity labels interact with emails.
This latest certification being announced in this blog post lasted about 1 year! That's bananas.
