Replace VPN access with identity-driven security
Great article and a subject really worth talking about since these types of VPN replacements are still new subjects at clients!
One observation from large Zero Trust initiatives is that replacing the VPN can often be the "easy" part of the transformation.
The bigger challenge is shifting from a network-centric mindset to an identity-centric operating model. Success often depends less on the technology deployment itself and more on having strong identity governance, Conditional Access strategy, device trust, and clear ownership of access decisions.
I particularly liked the emphasis on understanding the application landscape before migration. In my experience, organisations that treat VPN modernisation as an access transformation rather than a network replacement project tend to achieve better security outcomes and a smoother user experience
