This feature does not work for the Teams desktop client (works as expected for the web client as well as SPO). We had a ticket open with Microsoft for over 3 months which ultimately yielded this response below. Please make sure you add that to this blog.

 

We got a confirmation from our MS Teams developers saying Google Federation is not currently supported in Teams, that's why the desktop client is not working right now, they are working on deploying the feature working without issues on both desktop client and web browser.
