Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and OpenAI's GPT-6 Sol are rolling out to Microsoft Copilot today across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chat, Cowork, and Copilot Studio.

Bringing Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol to Microsoft Copilot reflects Microsoft's commitment to giving customers access to the latest AI innovations as they emerge. As AI continues to evolve, Microsoft is expanding model choice in Copilot so customers can benefit from the unique strengths of different models within a familiar, trusted, and enterprise-ready experience.

No single model is ideal for every task. That's why Microsoft Copilot provides access to multiple frontier models, giving users the flexibility to choose the one that best fits the work they need to accomplish. But model choice is only part of what drives a great response. Equally important is what the model knows about your work. Through Work IQ, Copilot grounds responses in your organization's files, meetings, chats, and business data, helping deliver results that are relevant, informed, and connected to the context of your work.

Get started

Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol begins rolling out today. Availability may vary by license, access, and region.

For the latest rollout status, see the AI at Work Roadmap and the Microsoft Copilot release notes. For more detail on the models themselves,  see Anthropic's announcement of Claude Opus 5.5 and OpenAI's announcement of GPT-6 Sol.

"No single model is ideal for every task."

"....giving users the flexibility to choose the one that best fits the work they need to accomplish."

This is consistent messaging from Microsoft with little guidance on which model is best for which task. Instead the message is just " Auto it" if unsure.  If you are not providing this guidance then maybe Copilot can. When on Auto, have Copilot tell users which model it did use and why.

Availability may vary by license, access, and region.

Where can we find more detailed information regarding this? Which models are supposed to be available with paid Copilot add-ons vs which are available with free licenses that are included with E3/E5 plans?

    Thank you, Mr Song

This is a useful update, but I’m concerned about transparency.

With Think Deeper, we know it uses an OpenAI reasoning model, but not which one. Auto is even less clear, since the model can change depending on the prompt. On the other hand, when selecting GPT-6 Sol or Claude Opus 5.5, we know the model, but not the reasoning level being used.

For professional work, it would be useful to see both the model and the reasoning level used for each answer. Will Microsoft clarify what powers Think Deeper and eventually allow users to choose both the model and the reasoning effort?

    Hello Mr Song,

I can see the screenshot in the blog post listing, but I can't see it in the post itself.

Could you check if the screenshot is included in the post? It may just be an issue on my side.

I'm not able to access these models yet, possibly due to regional availability or my organization's enterprise policies.

    Thank you.
