๐ Microsoft Global Community Initiative Newsletter
October 2026
Hi Community Builders and event producers!
๐ Welcome to the October Community Update
Halfway through October and the community has been busy! Whether youโre planning your very first meetup, running a local user group, or producing a full-day Community Day, this newsletter is your monthly one-stop shop for whatโs happening across the Microsoft Global Community Initiative (MGCI).
A few things weโre excited about this month: CommunityDays.org just celebrated its 4th birthday ๐ (with a shiny new calendar view on the events page), our Regional Leaders are road-testing a new Event Charter Template on real community events, and Isidora Kataniฤ joins us on October 21 to talk about why building community is a team sport.
Grab a coffee โ, scroll through, and take whatever helps you and your community. Letโs go! ๐
๐๏ธ Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month- a reminder of the power of community. About 1 in 8 U.S. women will be diagnosed in her lifetime, and an estimated 2,670 U.S. men will be diagnosed this year.
There is hope ๐: when caught early, the five-year relative survival rate is over 99%, and more than 4 million breast cancer survivors are living in the U.S. today.
This month, check in on others, encourage the people you care about, men included, to know their bodies and get screened, and support those facing treatment or caring for a loved one. The more we talk, the stronger we are together.

๐ค What Are the MGCI Regional Leaders Doing for Community?
๐ Road-testing the New Event Charter Template
Our Regional Leaders have been rolling up their sleeves! This fall they have been teaming up in regional cohorts to road-test a brand-new Event Charter Template: a fill-in-the-blanks starting point for planning a CollabDays, M365 Community Day, or any community-led event, whether itโs in person, virtual, or hybrid. It walks you through the big stuff: purpose and goals, audience, format, speakers, venue, accessibility, sponsorship and budget, marketing, timeline, and what happens after the event.
Instead of testing it in theory, each cohort picked a real event in their region and worked through the charter together. Big thanks to the Austrian Power Platform Enthusiasts, who reviewed the template ahead of their second-ever Community Day on October 23! ๐ฆ๐น
Whatโs next? The cohorts are wrapping up this round over the next few weeks, and the refreshed template will join the event production templates on the MGCI site so anyone running a community event can download it and make it their own. MGCI Regional Leaders, working for the community!
In the meantime, explore whatโs already available in the MGCI Organizer Toolkit . Stay tuned, thereโs more on the way! ๐
Thank you for staying engaged with the Microsoft Global Community Initiative, we hope to see you at our upcoming MGCI monthly calls!
Sincerely,
Your Board Officers
