Tech Communities does not have blog admin specific settings like MSDN\Technet did. You can set for your personal setting to display by date.
When you get to the main page for a blog site, choose Options on the right and "Edit my preferences". From here, choose the "General' tab. There is a "Sort topics by" with the options:
- Time of most recent post
- Original posting date
- Use default (time of most recent post)
As for the main page being the large icon format, sorry, absolutely nothign we can do about that from a blog admin perspective. That's the way Tech Communities as a whole is set up.
