Update 10/22/2025: Addition of two more FAQs.
In May 2024, we shared our Exchange Server Roadmap Update and our plans for the future of Exchange Server. Since then, we’ve been asked some questions ...
I have a question if i haveM365 E5, that means that I don’t need to buy CAL licenses for users, and i still need to buy server licenses and it can be purchased without SA, did i get it right ?!
and if my understanding is correct, can i buy the server licenses from a CSP ?!
You can look up the CAL equivalent for your M365 E5 USLs here. It's important to select the right licensing program before looking it up. I have pre-selected MCA (Microsoft Customer Agreement) in this link. If you bought the USLs via another program like EA, don't forget to select the licensing program in the upper right. https://www.microsoft.com/licensing/terms/en-US/product/CALandMLEquivalencyLicenses/MCA
No, you either need to acquire Exchange Server SE license from your USLs like M365 E3/5 via Enterprise Agreement (Extended Use Rights) or if your USLs don't come with Exchange Server license like EA, you need to have License + active SA.
