Will Outlook for IOS and Android support S/MIME after this change?

I wonder if this will drive some so-far-unwilling customers to just put their mailboxes in Exchange Online instead. It would be nice to hear what kinds of customers are the target market for this and how much of the overall customer base they would represent. I suppose breaking down as many barriers to EMS as possible must be one of the big drivers?

we are one of those unwilling to go to the cloud. one of the arguments is MTM attacks. another is reliability of service from point A to the cloud.

Wow, sounds nice but what is the benefit? I see more costs and addition to add cloud for users running hybrid because of security (cloud is not allowed because...) or special needs. Why not just move the mail to o365 instead of this?

Hi Tim, Yes -> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/active-directory-certificate-based-authentication-ios and https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/active-directory-certificate-based-authentication-get-started. Please note these documents cover direct CBA against AAD via EXO for EAS or CBA from the Outlook App via ADFS/WAP when Certificate Authentication is configured.

Organizations who have data residency restrictions what are the options around it as the data is cached and would reside in the cloud. Is there any discussion or conversations around those who have these restrictions.?

ours is basically based on security issues on the cloud. MTM attacks and all that. plus, ISP services are not always reliable.

So Higher ED will need to start purchasing licenses to support items 4, 5 and 6 listed under Technical and licensing requirements? If you are on the free offerings, then this is a huge amount of funds that will need to be allocated. Hopefully, I am missing something. Can you please clarify? Thank you.

    Thanks Ross.

What's the intended approach for customers who do not want to have their data stored in the cloud - be that for compliance, preference or otherwise? The authentication piece is only half of it - I have customers who are "lukewarm" at best on cloud, and their parent company policies are unambiguous - data must not ever be stored in a datacentre outside of the customers' control regardless of what the provider claims about security and access control. They will certainly not permit any form of writeback or hybrid.

Yes, they realise this precludes certain technologies - but this seems to be enforcing "cloud only" (which is distinct from "cloud first") and means they cannot use the Microsoft apps and would potentially mean transitioning to other technologies that can be compliant with internal policy.

And before you ask - no, the parent company will not change its tune in the near future.

Is there a plan to allow 3rd party vendors e.g. MobileIron to somehow tie into this? Maybe via Intune or direct?
