hi, I originally disabled Windows update service, so that the updates didn't apply during our patch window. Yesterday I restarted the service, then
I installed the security patch manually onto Exchange 2016 CU22 on a Server 2016 VM yesterday. The security patch run ok, and rebooted the server. Then run Setup.exe /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms_DiagnosticDataON /PrepareAllDomains” which said success.
All seemed fine, however I then used Windows update to install the Server 2016 May Servicing stack (KB5014026), net framework 4.8 (KB5013625) and Cumulative (KB5013952)
The updates took an absolute age to download and apply. Blue screen with just a circle spinning around on reboot. When the server finally restarted, nine services for Exchange would not start. So I restarted the server, then the server just blue screened every time. I managed to get the server up using last good configuration option. Server would then boot up, but Exchange still would not start, nine Exchange services would not start. I manually started the services and exchange eventually kicked into life. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? As normally my sever reboots without issue, but worried now next time I reboot the email server will blue screen again.
Therefore has anyone witnessed a similar issue, or recommend any logs for me to check? As so loosing faith with Microsoft updates over the last year or so, breaking things, and using my own time on weekends. Many thanks
