Hello Community and good day,
just a quick question/heads up here with regards to the re-released Exchange 2016 August 2023 SU v2 as I have personally witnessed an unexpected behavior myself earlier this morning (I would say unexpected behavior according to the table that describes the actions that needs to be taken based on the environment). First of all, our customer is running Exchange Server on top of an Italian OS. In short:
1) On august 10th, the first attempt to install the Aug SUv1 automatically via Windows Update overnight failed
2) We successfully rolled back the VM in the morning once we realized the issue as the VM was unusable
3) A few minutes after the VM came up after the rollback, a second attempt to install the Aug SUv1 via Windows Update started automatically and installation was completed without issues. As usual we ran the Health Checker script afterwards and completed the mitigations as requested
4) As a result of the Aug SUv2 being released on 8/15/2023, the VM first attempted to install it automatically via Windows Update last night and installation failed, leaving Exchange services in a disabled state and the VM unusable as well
5) We just rolled back the VM once again earlier this morning once we realized the issue, and for now disabled all automatic updates
Based on my understanding, the behavior we’ve been observing is unexpected according to the table that describes the actions that needs to be taken based on the environment. I have taken an image-level backup of the VM earlier this morning prior to rolling it back once again, so I’m more than happy to extract some logs if someone from The_Exchange_Team wants to get more information on why the Aug SUv2 installation failed as it might be beneficial to others.
Best,
Massimiliano
