I appreciate the introduction of outbound email limits as a measure to enhance security and system integrity. However, I believe the current 24-hour window may not accommodate the operational realities of all organizations.
For example, some businesses experience peak email volumes on specific days of the week or month, which could lead to occasional breaches of the daily threshold. A rolling 7-day window—allowing the same total volume (e.g., 70,000 emails over 7 days)—might offer more flexibility while still maintaining control.
Additionally, it could be helpful to explore differentiated handling for external recipients, perhaps by introducing a mechanism similar to High Volume Email (HVE), where only a portion of those emails count toward the limit. This would support legitimate bulk communications without compromising safeguards.
I’d be interested to hear how others are managing this and whether Microsoft is considering more adaptive models.
