Update 3/20/2017: The documentation for modern public folder migration to Exchange Online has now been released. Please go here for the announcement.

Right on the heels of our recent TAP program announcement, we wanted to see if there are customers who would like to help us validate migration of modern public folders from Exchange 2013/2016 to Exchange Online (EXO). This is a scenario that at this time we do not support, but plan on doing so. Estimated availability of bits for testing those topologies (subject to change):
  • Exchange 2013 public folders > EXO: September 2016
  • Exchange 2016 public folders > EXO: November 2016
In order to participate, you will need to enroll into the above mentioned TAP program. If you are interested in trying out the migration, please contact the PF migration team at (address removed due to final release) with the following details:
  1. Organization Name
  2. Tenant domain name in Exchange Online
  3. Exchange version
  4. Total size of Public Folders
  5. Number of PF mailboxes
  6. Largest Public Folder size
  7. Total count of Public Folders
  8. Count of Mail enabled Public Folders
  9. Which clients are used by users to access PF?
  10. Number of users
  11. Number of exchange server installations
  12. Is Exchange Hybrid setup done?
  13. When is the plan to migrate users to EXO?
We will review the details and see if we can on-board the organization into TAP/Beta program. We are looking for customers with >500GB of public folder data or >50,000 folders. Let us know! Public Folder Migration team

Version 2.0
  • I am very excited that MS has started this effort. There is also a trend difference here where usually the latest version is tried and then back-ported to previous version but in this case 2013 seem to come first. Time and again, MS shows respect to long standing Onpremise customers (who installed 2013 long time ago)

2007/2010 to Exchange online is already supported, find the steps here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn874017(v=exchg.150).aspx .
  • Are you looking for customers with over 250GB PF data ?

We would be happy to accept customers with over 250GB data. But we want to first validate and iron out issues with customers with less data. Do contact us with your Public Folder details, so that we can take this forward.
  • I presume 'modern public folders' mean public folders native to 2013/16? What about migrating PFs from 2010 to Exchange Online?

2010 to Exchange online is already supported, you don't need to be part of this program. Please find the steps here https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn874017(v=exchg.150).aspx
  • I know this is old, but any ETA on when/if this will be publicly available?
