There was a time when Microsoft supported their own products.
At least the latest versions (and if there was a known problem, there was a big red flashlight somewhere).
Then there was a time when you couldn't rely on that anymore.
You had to investigate, read tons of Technet and Blog entries, ask Microsoft and so forth to get a feeling if it's worth starting with test-installations as soon as a new product arrived.
The world has changed again.
Nowadays you don't get any reliable information, questions to this Blog are predominantly ignored (eg support for 2012r2 DCs).
