@pesos, it is merely an option to consider at this time. The other tangible benefits are not using up all of the space on the backup system for each snapshot or tape full of data, dealing with backup agents, waiting for restores as you said, and you can skip export to PST and inject the content back to the mailbox if the user gives you enough information on what to restore. There are pros and cons for each option to weigh against business requirements.
I present it as an option for customers to consider, not an 'excuse' for why the folder information is not natively recoverable from the Recoverable Items folder. The architectural changes made in Exchange 2010 to enable a suite of other options made this particular task considerably more difficult to implement. That's the honest truth and teams within Exchange are well aware of the desire to see it possible. I would also like to see the option available.
