Windows 2012 is the only operating system to support native 4 K disks. This would yield a logical sector size of 4096 and a physical sector size of 4096. In order for this issue to pop up you'd have to mix Windows 2012 nodes where you had 512E / 4K with 4K/4K or 512 / 512 and 4K / 4K. If this were to occur I'd assume at this point that it would be because the underlying storage here was different from the start and this would not be supported (since sector sizes for Exchange 2010 must match across DAG nodes).
This example I outlined here comes up because the storage is the same but the controllers just became enlightened to what was actually behind them.
