Derek, If you're reading KB930879, I'm reading it the same as you. I just got done running the Calendar Update Tool on my BE servers (saw both the 0x8004011D and 0x80004005 errors) and plan on running the CDO patch tomorrow night.
If all goes horribly awry, MS does offer "server down critical LAN outages or escalated, "business down" customer situations." If the patches mess you up, go to the source for assistance.
