Thank you for this detailed yet summarized guide!
We are having a case with migrating from very old setup - Exchange 2013 on a Server 2008, trying to get to the Exchange 2019 on Server 2019.
At the very start, preparing the AD and Forest, we have doubts regarding the Forest. It is currently set to Server 2008, and we know that the minimum should be 2012 R2.
All 3 of our DCs are on Server 2019 (Windows Server 2019 Datacenter 10.0 (17763), and the Current Domain functional level is Server 2016, highest possible. It can not be raised.
Current Forest functional level is Server 2008 R2, and it can be raised to Server 2012, 2012 R2 and 2016.
Which one would you recommend raising to, but in order not to lose any current functionalities of Exchange 2013 on Server 2008 R2 ?
We are thinking of 2016 of course, but are there any risks ?
The idea is to migrate completely to Exchange 2019 and then decommission Exchange 2013. It is a small system, nearly 100 mailboxes all together.
Thank you very much in advance!
