CraigDanz It's... complicated. Our support agent network is large and diverse. We do have appropriate documentation for support agents, in places where they can access it, but unfortunately, sometimes things get lost in communications and not all people will always do as best as they can. There is no sugar coating it that during the month of September, tell you to run any cmdlets to enable basic auth is irrelevant (unless we are talking about authentication policies, so for example for SMTP Auth). I can also tell you that I know for a fact that we have many of those requests that do get taken care of properly (I have seen them).
In short - you did it right, we did not.
Starting in October, this will change, and you'll be able to re-enable by yourself again.
